Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter melted and slightly cooled
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg + 1 egg yolk room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 2 cups semisweet chocolate chips plus extra for topping
  • Optional: 1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans

Method

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine melted butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar. Whisk until smooth and glossy.
  3. Add the egg, egg yolk, and vanilla extract. Stir until well blended.
  4. Gradually fold in the dry ingredients. The dough will be thick but soft. Do not overmix.
  5. Gently stir in chocolate chips (and nuts if using).
  6. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and chill the dough for at least 1 hour. This step helps prevent spreading and enhances flavor.
  7. Preheat oven to 350°F. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  8. Scoop dough into 2-tablespoon mounds and place 2 inches apart on the prepared sheets.
  9. Bake for 10–12 minutes, until edges are golden but centers still look slightly soft.
  10. Let cookies cool on the pan for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
